This DVD edition of Arthur Robison’s eerie silent film has been mastered from the restoration of a French 35mm print held by La Cinémathèque française and an American 35mm duplicate negative held by the Museum of Modern Art by La Cineteca del Comune di Bologna and La Cinémathèque française, with film restoration work performed by L’Immagine Ritrovata, and controlled by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in Germany.
The film is presented with a modern music score performed on piano and synthesizer by Donald Sosin.
Now out-of-print and due for restoration and rerelease, we recommend this home video edition which is still worth hunting down for your collection.
